We're excited to announce that registration has opened for the 2017 Summer Slam, brought to you by TechFish and Annapolis Boat Sales. To enter, register at our online store by CLICKING HERE. Just as last year, cost to enter is $40, which includes custom long-sleeve performance tournament shirt and and end-of-derby party at the Big Owl Tiki Bar on the Kent Narrows. Tournament will run from May 1-September 16, an earlier start than last year which will give everyone more time to fish and a shot at some big post-spawn rockfish.

Last year we had a great turnout for our first year and we are excited to really grow the tournament this year. For $40, you are getting more than you pay for on the value of the shirt and party alone, so we hope you'll show your support for the site, enter the derby and join the fun! If you have a company and are interested joining us as a sponsor, send me a PM for more info.

Once again to enter, register at our online store by CLICKING HERE. Tight lines and good luck to everyone!

Registration is now open for the 2017 Summer Slam!! CLICK HERE to visit our online store and sign up today!! This year, the derby is going to run from May 1 - September 16 with our big awards party once again at the Big Owl Tiki Bar on Kent Island on the 16th.

For those who didn't participate last year, here's some info. We're running 4 divisions- Angler, Fly, Kayak and Junior (6-14). Entry fee is $40 per division and each entry includes a sweet custom Summer Slam performance shirt. Anglers will pursue Striped Bass, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish and Speckled Trout, looking to put together a Slam of 3 of the 5. We'll be running a live leaderboard out on the dock at the Big Owl, and we'll keep a digital one running here.

Many thanks to our fantastic sponsors- Annapolis Boat Sales, Island Tackle Outfitters and tournament headquarters the Big Owl Tiki Bar. If any additional sponsors are interested, we have just a few remaining slots.

Full rules are below, if you have questions, PM @TechnicalFisher, @Digger or @Peltz

    Tournament Rules

Entry Fees: There are four (4) divisions that anglers may enter: 1) Regular, 2) Fly, 3) Kayak, 4) Junior (ages 6-14). Cost to enter each division is $40.00. Anglers may enter as many divisions as they are eligible for (i.e. both Regular and Fly).

Eligible Species: The target species are the top gamefish on the Chesapeake: Striped Bass, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Speckled Trout and Redfish.

Tournament Area: The geographic limits of the tournament are all tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries from the Susquehanna Flats to the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel. Note that anglers must obey all rules of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and are advised to consult these agencies' website to confirm which specific areas are legal to fish.

Fishing Methods: Anglers must use hook and line to catch all submitted fish. Anglers using bait are encouraged to use circle hooks. Anglers in the fly division must use fly rod and artificial fly to catch all submitted fish.

Catch and Release: Catch and release is always encouraged, however anglers are permitted to keep their catches when/where legal to do so. Anglers are individually responsible for compliance with all applicable regulations and must purchase appropriate state fishing licenses from Maryland and/or Virginia.

Tournament Period: The tournament will begin at midnight, May 1, 2016 and continue until noon (12:00pm), Saturday September 16. Registration is open and will remain open throughout the tournament time period.

Submissions: To be eligible, a catch must be photographically recorded with a digital camera. Anglers must obtain and use a measuring device of an appropriate length to measure the their catch. Anglers must include one of the following in the photo: 1) TechFish Sticker with 2017 written on it; 2) "OK" hand gesture, or; 3) Fishing pliers. Doing so will help the tournament committee ensure that all photos were taken within the tournament period. Photographs must be posted within forty-eight (48) hours of the catch in the appropriate sub-forum at Digital Cameras, media cards, or other types of digital images that fail to clearly show the length of the fish, with the official measuring devise, will be disallowed at the sole discretion of the tournament committee.

Measurement: Largest fish will be determined by length only. All fish will be measured from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. In case of a tie the fish measured first will be the winner. Place the measuring device on the deck of your boat. Lay the fish on top of the measuring device. Put the snout of the fish on the zero (the end of the measuring device) and the tip of the tail on the higher number. You are responsible for getting the snout of the fish exactly on the zero end of the measuring device. You may pinch the tail or leave it natural- total length will be judged to edge of tail. If a fish is longer than the measuring device, the tournament committee will judge length.

Judging Criteria: All photos will be judged by the tournament committee. To qualify for a Slam, an angler must submit photos of three (3) of the (5) target species. The angler with the highest total combined Slam inches will win the division. There is no limit to number of submissions. The committee reserves the sole right and discretion to determine the validity and content of any submission and will be solely responsible for the selection of the winner(s).

Minimizing Fish Mortality: If an entrant has caught and killed a keeper for their own use, all efforts should be employed to preserve, revive and release subsequent fish.

Legal: All participants and guests of participants are responsible for their own personal safety and the security of their personal property and expressly assume any and all risks to their personal safety and well-being as a result of their participation in the tournament. It is a pre-condition of participation in the Chesapeake Summer Slam that all participants shall release and hold harmless the Technical Fisherman, Water Life Media, LLC and any sponsors from any and all claims, losses, costs and expenses, personal injuries, wrongful deaths and property damage, whatsoever, arising from or during participation in the Fishing Tournament. By electing to participate in the Chesapeake Summer Slam, all participants agree to, and grant this release of liability and shall not be permitted to withdraw or disavow that release of liability. All participants who fish from motorized watercraft must have appropriate casualty and liability insurance coverage, which must be presented to the tournament committee if requested.

Be safe, have fun and good luck!

We unfortunately don't have any new stickers made as of yet. The ones being used are homemade.
